Youth Navigator engages high-risk youth and assists youth in discovering available opportunities and attachments that will lead towards increased stability and reduced risk. Navigation will be youth-led and Navigator informed. That is, with the help of the Navigator, high-risk youth will determine what services are pursued, and on what timeline.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish contact with high-risk youth through multiple avenues/locations.
  • Connect with youth during both regular and irregular hours.
  • Use narratives as part of a less-traditional intake process.
  • Assist youth in identifying, leveraging and navigating local services and resources and mediating healthy peer/care-giver relationships using a strength-based approach.
  • Work with school district staff police community agencies and rural communities to provide transition supports to youth.
  • Establish a youth-led planning council of high-risk youth to help identify service gaps, areas of opportunity, and areas of success (Youth Input Lunches/Dinners).
  • Act as a driving force for community change by assisting with Community Mapping and identifying and informing of service gaps.
  • Act as a referral point within a supportive network dedicated to high-risk youth.
  • Catalyze the development of a Safe Space initiative to address AWOL behavior.
  • Use email, internet and Microsoft Office for clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Recognize own professional boundaries and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with other community social service agencies in Williams Lake and British Columbia.
  • Promote relationships of trust and co-operation with clients, respect cultural values and beliefs, maintain professional boundaries.

Wage: $28.07/hour
