Natural Resources Field Worker

Job Summary:
The Natural Resources field worker is responsible for assisting in responding to referrals assigned by the Permit Coordinator, from outside agencies that will influence Tsq’escen First Nation’s traditional territory, the research of traditional, cultural, historical, and archeological data for referrals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Tsq’escen First Nation policies, standards, and procedures.
2. Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Tsq’escen First Nation.
3. Performs all duties and responsibilities within the Tsq’escen First Nation Natural Resources Health and Safety Program assigned by the NR office coordinator.
4. Assists in research of existing traditional use study for information, such as trails, place names, spiritual sites, camp sites and food gathering sites.
5. Assists with the research of cultural/historical use information including food gathering sites, medicinal harvesting sites/plants, fishing, trapping, and hunting sites.
6. Develops competency with research retrieval with both hard copy and computer-stored information.
7. Includes field notes for culture and heritage and procedural recommendations in conjunction with the Permit Coordinator.
8. Conducts field visits to review and confirm culture and heritage resources and assess potential impacts.
9. Maintains diary records using day planner on field days.
10. Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Tsq’escen First Nation territory, history of the Tsq’escném’c people, culture and heritage of the Tsq’escném’c people, identification of culture and heritage resources uses in the territory, main road systems in the territory.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, manage workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong team player
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
• Ability to learn computer programs for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, and the internet, to the intermediate level (capable of using a large number of functions and feel confident using the program)
• Ability to use field devices (iPad, Zoleo, InReach, GPS, Two- way radios)
• Other programs used (drop box, downloading onto and off iPads).
Education/Requirements:
• Minimum Grade 12 graduation.
• Minimum of two to three (2-3) years’ experience with Natural Resources or Forestry field
Conditions of Employment:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s Licence.
• Having proper PPE.
• Primarily field position.
• Travel will be required.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job which include standing, walking, and working in all weather conditions.
• When required, the ability to use an ATV to get to job site. (On-site training will be provided)
• Non-standard hours of work (10hr days or O.T to complete tasks).
• Receives minimal supervision with occasional direction and very few checks of the work performed.
Term: Seasonal – Full Time
(35 hours/week) (Monday-Friday)
Hourly rate of Pay: As per the Tsq’escen First Nation Salary Grid (Based on experience)
