The City of Dawson Creek invites applicants for Labourer(s) in the Parks department on a seasonal basis. Under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor or designate, a Seasonal Labourer performs a variety of operational and preventative maintenance tasks such as grounds care and related duties in City parks and greenspaces and other recreational facilities.  The successful candidate must also be able to operate equipment such as string trimmer, lawn mowers and other equipment as required.

Requirements:

·         A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

·         Completion of Grade 10 or a combination of equivalent and relevant experience.

·         The ability to perform all the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility Procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and WorkSafe BC Regulations, i.e. WHMIS, T.D.G, and fostering positive relationships with both the public and fellow staff.

·         Prior work experience in a similarly physically demanding position involving ornamental landscaping, turf management, and operation of industrial turf maintenance equipment, or demonstrated transferable skills from previous employment will be considered assets.

·         Preference will be given to applicants with certification in, and/or experience with, pesticide application, landscaping, tree risk assessment, irrigation or horticulture.

 

What You’ll Do:

·           Performs a variety of operational and preventative maintenance tasks, such as grounds care, machinery operation, parks & recreation sites.

·           Operation of equipment relating to construction, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems, grounds, parks, and recreational sites.

·           Operate equipment such as hand or small power tools, construction tools, lawn tractors, string trimmer, and other garden and grounds equipment as required.
