Summer Student -General Support Worker (Maintenance, Cleaning & Child Minding)

The Next Mile Services is seeking a reliable Summer Student to support day-to-day tasks across our worksites. This hands-on role includes outdoor yard work, light maintenance (pressure washing, painting preparation), cleaning and organizing, and occasional child minding as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete outdoor tasks (mowing, trimming, weeding, raking/sweeping, basic landscaping, and yard clean-up).
• Support light maintenance, including pressure washing walkways/decks/siding/equipment, following safety instructions and using PPE.
• Assist with painting projects (surface prep, masking/taping, set-up/clean-up, and painting as directed).
• Perform cleaning duties (vacuuming, dusting, floors, sanitizing high-touch surfaces, garbage/recycling removal, and restocking supplies).
• Organize storage areas and help move/lift supplies and equipment.
• Provide child minding when required, following The Next Mile Services direction and any site-specific safety or confidentiality requirements.
• Maintain a safe, respectful work environment; report hazards, incidents, or concerns promptly to a supervisor.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Currently enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education and returning to school in the fall (preferred).
• Dependable and punctual; able to follow instructions and work independently.
• Comfortable with physically active work and working outdoors in varying weather.
• Basic awareness of safe tool use (pressure washer/hand tools) and willingness to learn.
• Professional, respectful communication; able to maintain confidentiality on-site.
• Experience with cleaning, yard work, painting, or childcare is an asset.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation is an asset (if required for the worksite).

Position Details

• Term: Summer student position May to August 2026 – dates to be confirmed.
• Hours: 30 to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility based on operational needs.
• Work Location: Primarily in 100 Mile House, with some days possibly in Williams Lake.
• Wage: $19/hr. plus applicable statutory benefits.
