Job Overview
The Pathways to Purposeful Employment – Work Experience program offers structured, supported work experience for adults in the Cariboo Chilcotin who are ready to build skills, gain confidence, and explore what comes next. Each placement runs up to 240 hours, comes with mentorship and training, and is open to people currently receiving BCEA, PWD, PPMB, Hardship Assistance, or equivalent federal assistance. Your assistance continues alongside the stipend.
Skills & Qualities That Will Help You Succeed
No prior experience is required. The following personal qualities will support your success:
- A professional, respectful, and detail-oriented approach to work and to others
- Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisory staff
- Comfort working in a structured office environment with routine tasks
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an office team
Training & Support Provided
- 2-day agency orientation covering CMHA-CC programs, policies, and culture
- Placement-specific office orientation and introduction to office systems and tools
- Ongoing mentorship from the Supported Opportunities Life Skills Worker
- Monthly employment readiness coaching and check-ins
- Opportunity to obtain relevant certifications or training in related areas
- Any additional training or education relevant to the placement role
Hours, Scheduling & Stipend Information
- Participants receive a stipend based on hours completed, up to a maximum of $3,600.
- Stipend payments are disbursed on a regular basis throughout the placement. A typical pattern of approximately two 4-hour shifts per week is anticipated, with all placements to be completed by February 28, 2027.
- Scheduling will be arranged individually with each participant based on their needs and circumstances.
Please Note:
- This placement is stipend-supported and does not constitute regular employment
- Participants are not considered employees under the Employment Standards Act
- This stipend is not a wage and does not constitute employment income
- The WEOG stipend is exempt from BCEA deductions
- Participants are required to report and declare their stipend to the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction
- Each person’s financial and tax situation is unique — participants are encouraged to seek individual advice regarding how participation may affect their personal circumstances
- Completion of this placement does not guarantee employment with CMHA-CC or any other organization.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be currently receiving BC Employment and Assistance (BCEA) — including Income Assistance, Disability Assistance, Hardship Assistance, or the PPMB benefit — or an equivalent
- federal assistance program
- Be legally eligible to work in British Columbia
- Be currently unemployed
- Provide one piece of documentation confirming eligibility, dated within the last 60 days organizational requirements
Selected participants will be required to:
- Complete a Criminal Record Check, which may include a vulnerable sector check
Comply with CMHA-CC’s Code of Conduct and Ethics - Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policies
- Complete all required agency orientation and safety training
