Job Purpose
Works with children who require extra support, in any setting in the community where care is being provided for the child, implementing an individual support plan developed by the Team.
Wage: $30.40 per/hr
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assess each child’s need for Supported Child Development, plan and implement appropriate intervention and participates in client conferences, case reviews and team meetings.
2. Works directly with the child in the childcare setting by assisting the child with activities as needed to promote the inclusion of special needs children in community programs.
3. Use professional specialized skills and knowledge to provide direct service and support for the child, parents, caregivers and other team members.
4. Structure clear Individual Service Plan, based on best practice.
5. Participate in professional development activities such as courses and workshops.
6. Keep accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre policies and procedures.
7. Assists in integrating child into childcare setting by implementing child specific adaptations of toys and equipment as directed by the Team Manager.
8. Use email, internet and Microsoft Office for clinical and administrative tasks.
9. Ability to work well with children and families within a multi-disciplinary team.
10. Recognize own professional boundaries and demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
11. Ability to reflect on practice and identify training needs relating to own caseload.
12. Communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team
Qualifications
1. Early Childhood Education or relevant education and experience.
2. Current First Aid Certificate as per Community Care Facility Act
3. Recent experience working with children requiring extra support and their families.
4. Ability to organize time and follow instructions.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
6. Understanding the needs of children requiring extra support.
7. Additional education and training in special needs an asset.
8. Knowledge of Supported Child Care philosophies and objectives.
9. Must possess and maintain a valid BC driver’s license and have own reliable vehicle suitable for travel.
10. Must have a recent satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Physical Requirements
This position will be exposed to a high level of noise and distractions from children, the Supported Child Development consultant will need to pay close attention to their physical and emotional abilities. This position is required to deal with children at different developmental stages on a daily basis. Direct delivery may include moderate physical activity involving walking, running, standing, bending and lifting children. The ability to function under pressure, while managing emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.
