CARPENTER LEAD HAND

Job Description:

Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs

Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements

Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools

Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials

Prepare tenders and quotations

Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems

Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware

Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites

Survey building locations and levels

Instruct apprentices

Supervise other workers

Co-ordinate trades

Fit and install siding, soffit, fascia, roofing, decking, railings and all other exterior finishes

Fit and install cabinets, countertops and appliances

Prep and spray finish interior woodwork

Prep and stain exterior woodwork

Setup and maintain remote work camp

Ensure safe work operations in remote settings

Drive to remote work sites delivering tools, job materials and supplies to job sites.

Requirements:

Education: Some secondary school is required.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of carpentry experience, including supervisory experience is required. If the candidate does not have at least 5 years of experience, then completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship and some college or industry courses in carpentry is required.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s license is required.

Carpenter Red Seal Certificate is required or International equivalent is required.

Ability to supervise at least 4 workers.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Bending, crouching, kneeling, Combination of sitting, standing, walking,

Handling heavy loads, large workload, physically demanding, tight deadlines, work with minimal supervision.

Personal Suitability: Accurate, Efficient interpersonal skills, Judgement, Reliability, Team player.

Language: English is required

Salary: $42 CAD hourly. 40-45 hours per week.

Benefits: Mileage paid. Accommodation provided at no cost (during remote locations work). Remote-location work bonus provided.

Important Information: Work schedule is 21 days on and 10 days off – During the 21 days on we take a half-day off in the middle of the shift.  Regular schedule is from 6:30am-6pm. Daily work hours may vary depending on the business needs.
