POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Childhood Development and Parent Support Worker (Parent Support Worker) will work within the context of a multi-disciplinary team and agency. This position will actively engage with families, offering support and resources to help them navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising young children. Duties will also include working in consultation with additional professionals and community partners to ensure parents have the supports and skills needed to support their child’s development. In collaboration with other team members assist in delivering prenatal, postnatal, parent support and development programs from a traditional lens. Services are delivered in both Williams Lake and the Tsilhqot’in territory as well as Ulkatcho.
Minimum Requirements
•Diploma in Early Childhood Education with a current BC License to Practice, Child and Youth Care, or related field (e.g. nursing, education, psychology, social work) is required.
•Three years’ experience in child development and parent support.
• Experience working with children aged 0 to 6 and facilitating programs a must.
• Demonstrated knowledge of prenatal health, wellbeing, and working with expecting parents.
•Proven ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous children, families, and communities.
•Skill in delivering formal and informal developmental training and facilitating groups.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
•Well-developed planning, organizing, administrative and decision-making skills.
•Ability to work effectively with program staff, community groups and agencies.
•Strong conflict resolution skills.
•Valid Class 5 Drivers License; clear criminal record.
•Willingness to work and travel to remote communities multiple times per week.
•Ability to work independently, good organizational, time management skills and computer skills.
Salary: $29.78/hr
