Indigenous Justice Coordinator

Job Summary :

The Indigenous Justice Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing innovative approaches to enhance the delivery of First Nations justice through the Restorative Justice and Alternative Measures framework. This role includes monitoring and supporting adult community offenders and victims of crime using the Restorative Justice model. Additionally, the Coordinator delivers trauma-informed practices and services that align with the Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation’s vision and values and oversees the Family Wellness Centre Well-being Program. The coordinator works collaboratively with Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation Departments and other stakeholders to support and empower families, promoting holistic well-being and cultural continuity.

Duties/Responsibilities :

General Duties:

· Adheres to all policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements as directed by the Chief Administrative Officer or Health Director.

Community Justice Practice:

· Develops and implements a Community Restorative Justice Program as an alternative to the court system.

· Establishes protocols with RCMP, government agencies, and community stakeholders that reflect Tsq̓éscen̓̓ values and priorities.

· Promotes traditional justice practices and creates a sentencing advisory process.

· Drafts legal documents and maintains confidential records.

· Supports offender accountability through tailored strategies and programs.

· Offers support services to victims and offenders.

· Monitors offenders and keeps detailed records.

· Builds relationships with justice-related organizations and the public.

· Coordinates education, training, and awareness programs.

· Refers clients to other local resources and liaises with legal and community services.

Outreach:

· Assists clients with probation, parole, and reintegration.

· Supports both on- and off-reserve clients.

· Attends court hearings and supervises clients through visits and check-ins.

Coordinator/Admin:

· Maintains detailed and confidential case records and reports.

· Submits regular service and program reports to Probation Services, Corrections Canada, and other stakeholders.

· Presents annual program updates at the Tsq̓éscen̓ AGM.

· Supports budget development for the Restorative Justice Program.

· Engages in ongoing professional development to maintain knowledge and skills.

 Qualifications :

The ideal candidate demonstrates a willingness to learn about Secwepemc culture and values, relates well to community members, and handles diverse tasks effectively. They possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, are proficient in Microsoft Office, and maintain professional phone etiquette. They work well both independently and as part of a team, show a commitment to continuous learning, and lead a lifestyle that aligns with the responsibilities of the role.

Education/Requirements :

· Restorative Justice, Advocacy, Domestic Violence, Alternative Measures training preferred

Conditions of Employment :

· must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check

· Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s Licence

· Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver’s Licence

 

Term:                           PERMANENT Full Time

(35 hours/ week) (Monday – Friday)

Hourly rate of Pay:     As per the Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation Salary Grid &  based on experience.
