POSITION TITLE:  Education Assistant (Classroom Support)

 REPORTING TO:  Principal

PURPOSE:

The primary role of the Education Assistant is to support students in Kindergarten/Grade 2.  Under the direction and supervision of Kindergarten/Grade 2 teacher, the Education Assistant will work with students in a one-on-one and/or group dynamics.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / CERTIFICATION:

  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent with Special Needs training
  • Training with Intensive Behaviour
  • Willing to undertake Professional Development courses/workshops.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working as an Education Assistant (Classroom Support)
  • Prefer experience providing support including working with First Nations Schools
  • Experience working with children with challenges.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong cultural sensitivity, understanding, and empathy.
  • Ability to always maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethics.
  • Ability to relate well to parents, students, and community members.
  • Capable of responding to competing demands in a variety of situations
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to assist with student with academic work and provide support for student(s) on planned field trips.
  • Ability to provide personal hygiene, i.e. toileting
  • Ability to work with classroom teacher and special education teacher to provide education and behavioural support to an individual or group of students.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s Licence
  • Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver’s Licence

TERM:           September 2026 – June 2027

6 hours per day, Monday – Friday

RATE:            Canim Lake Band Education Assistant Salary Grid

$29.20 – $35.49 per hour
