Description:
The Alkw Society is seeking an experienced and highly motivated person for the position of
Executive Director.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Alkw Society, a non-profit organization
with the mission of increasing Nuxalk language fluency, contributing to health and wellness and asserting Nuxalk
Nationhood. The Society administers Nuxalk Radio 91.1 FM, a Nuxalk Language Department and the House of Numst’
restoration and rebuilding project. The Executive Director will provide strategic vision, organizational leadership, and
ensure the effective implementation of programs and services. They will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff,
volunteers, and community partners to achieve the organization’s mission and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operational planning, management and leadership:
a. Develop and execute a strategic plan in collaboration with the Nuxalk community and Society board
which incorporates goals, vision and objectives (targets) that work towards the direction of the
Society.
b. Act as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the organizations’ activities.
c. Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of the Society Board, and
funders.
d. Draft policies for the approval of the Society and prepare procedures to implement the
organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the
Society as appropriate.
e. Facilitate Society board meetings including preparing the meeting agenda and supporting materials.
f. Builds partnerships with groups within the Bella Coola Valley and within the wider Indigenous
community to foster quality and relevance.
2. Financial planning and management:
a. Prepare an annual budget for approval by the Board and effectively manage it.
b. Secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization and its projects as well as developing
and implementing fundraising initiatives.
c. Administer the funds of the Society according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly
cash flow of the Society ensuring that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.
d. Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenue and expenditures.
3. Human resources planning and management
a. Determine service requirements for organizational management and program delivery.
b. Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures, and practices including the
development of contracts.
c. Supervise, monitor and review performance as appropriate.

Ideal candidate will have: Assets:
– Minimum 3+ years management/executive
level experience in a non-profit
– Proven track record of success in both
managing multi-year grants and reporting
deadlines as well as record of acquiring new
funding and opportunities
– Human Resource management expertise
– Nuxalkmc
– Active knowledge and relationship to existing
national, provincial, private, NGO and regional
grants and funders
– Ability to work with a Board of Directors and
engage in effective governance practices.
– Sensitivity to cultural protocols and practices
within Indigenous communities.

Term: Position is full time.
Start date: Immediately.
