Circulation and Reference Assistant

The Circulation and Reference Assistant registers new library patrons, checks library materials in/out and performs cash transactions for payment of overdue fines. This position will answer reference questions, including questions about electronic devices such as e-readers. They may also be required to deliver programs. There is a physical component to this position as well.

The Office of Crime Reduction – Gang Outreach (OCR-GO) works with police agencies, local governments, and communities to support evidence-based and integrated, policing related crime reduction and anti-gang initiatives to improve the safety of British Columbians. The OCR-GO defines crime reduction as actions taken to contain or reduce existing and emerging crime issues in communities across BC.  The OCR-GO emphasises the value of utilizing statistical analysis and research evidence to target offenders, guide decision-making, and evaluate the effectiveness of crime reduction and anti-gang activities.

The OCR-GO is led by the Policing and Security Branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and works in a coordinated fashion with the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch (CSCPB), the RCMP and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) in support of the End Gang Life initiative. The OCR-GO also works with local governments, community organizations, and police agencies to support crime reduction and anti-gang outreach programs.

The Community Coordinator – Crime Reduction Strategies, reporting to the Director, OCR-GO, develops programs and initiatives that are of strategic importance to the ministry from concept, to implementation and evaluation. This position supports and liaises with police agencies, other government ministries, First Nations communities, local governments and community partners to inform on best practices regarding crime reduction.  The Community Coordinator facilitates the development, formalization and implementation of local information sharing and collaboration protocols between and across key partners to help identify and support at-risk individuals who are in need of several, often overlapping services to collectively address the root causes of existing and emergent issues that lead to involvement in the criminal justice system.

Qualifications for this role include:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, criminology, social sciences or related discipline and minimum 2 years of related experience. Preference may be given to applicants with 4 years of related experience.

Experience building relationships with stakeholders and external partners.

Experience negotiating agreements and working collaboratively in partnership arrangements.

Invasive Species Team Crew Member Position

The Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC) is a registered, non-profit society whose members are involved in all aspects of invasive species management throughout the province of British Columbia.

The ISCBC is working in partnership with provincial government and community partners in the BC interior to provide awareness and educational outreach of invasive species, with a special focus on invasive plants. Training for applicant will include practical field skills in inventory, treatment and monitoring.

 

What does an Invasive Species Team person do?

As a member of the Team, your work in the project will include two components. The main focus will be on communication and presenting skills with a secondary focus on learning some practical field skills.

During your work, you will gain experience in planning, coordinating and leading public outreach and extension events. You will need strong people skills, writing skills and familiarity with computer programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You will expand your skills in writing, speaking and working with new programs such as webinar software.

You will also gain some practical field experience in inventory, data management, treatment and monitoring of high priority invasive species in the local area.

 

What will you gain?

Through this project, the Invasive Species Team Members will gain:
