Youth & Family Wellness Worker

The Lytton First Nation is currently seeking an energetic, highly-motivated and self-sufficient Youth & Family Wellness Worker for the Health Department. The position will be full-time (35 hours per week) until June 2017 and will be reduced to part-time (less than 35 hours per week). The successful candidate will be a vital part of the Mental Health & Wellness Team, and will include evening and weekend hours. The goal of the Youth & Family Wellness Worker is to provide youth and family members with activities and services that promote a healthy and substance abuse free lifestyle.

Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for raising awareness of LFN youth and community members about solvent abuse, mental health issues and substance misuse, while utilizing a holistic and preventative approach. Applicant must model good behaviour, empower youth by example and demonstrate a strong commitment to living a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. The incumbent must be in good physical health and possess excellent leadership and communication skills.

Specific Duties:

  • Research, organize and conduct workshops for youth and families within the schools and LFN community on solvent abuse and substance misuse issues.
  • Develop youth activities that support holistic health and wellness lifestyles.
  • Provide life skills education to youth and family members, specifically targeting youth at-risk.
  • Provide client referrals to drug and alcohol counselling services.
  • Participate in monthly meetings.
  • Liaise with staff from other relevant programs or organizations.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years’ post-secondary education with an Associates, Arts or Community Wellness Certificate. Relevant work experience required (two years minimum).
  • Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and work with minimum direction and supervision.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.
  • Excellent clear personal and professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assist youth and families with empathy; respecting their confidentiality and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner.

As the Resident Care Attendant (RCA) you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in a residential care setting. Working under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, RCA’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each resident, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are supported, while promoting maximum independence. Typical duties include:

Personal Care Worker

The Lytton First Nation is currently recruiting a Personal Care Worker for the Health Department. This position is classified as full-time, working under the support and supervision provided by the Home Care Coordinator and Home Care Nurse. The worker will provide in-home support services to the clients in the Home & Community Care Program that may include evening and weekend hours.

Duties:

  • Provide home care to elders, disabled persons and others in the program with identified needs.
  • General housekeeping, personal hygiene (bathing and changing clothes).
  • Meal preparation.
  • Medication Compliance; administer/monitor, store medications safely.
  • Monitor blood pressure/blood sugar and other physical conditions, as required.
  • Follow medical instructions carefully and consistently.
  • Assist with exercises, physiotherapist and other medical plans.
  • Assist clients to appointments and activities in the surrounding communities.

Qualifications:

  • Valid BC Driver’s License and personal vehicle required.
  • Personal Care Worker Certificate or
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related position.
  • First Aid and CPR.
  • Falls Prevention training.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

The Kitchen Coordinator will work both independently and collaboratively with volunteers at times to prepare and serve delicious and nutritious meals for students and staff. With supervision and support from the Program Manager, responsibilities will include:

  • Meal Planning:  Plan nutritious and hearty meals, snacks and beverages for students and staff during courses and course prep days.  Plan alternatives for students and staff with dietary restrictions and allergies.
  • Food Preparation & Cooking:  Prepare ingredients and cook meals for groups ranging in size from 12 people to 50 people in an off-the-grid kitchen.
  • Resource Management:  Track inventory of ingredients, kitchen supplies, (cleaning and dishwashing supplies, utensils, etc.) and site supplies, (toilet paper, soap, etc.).  File timely orders with grocery supply company to replenish stock on a regular basis.
  • Budget Management:  Monitor food and site supply budget, and make purchases within budget boundaries.
  • Relationship Management:  Communicate positively with kitchen assistance, vendors, local community partners, health authority inspectors, students, and adult stakeholders (parents/guardians & teachers) about food arrangements, their nourishment needs and our nourishment capabilities.
  • Leadership:  Direct, supervise and mentor “Home Team” members (staff and volunteers who are off-program) when they are assisting in the kitchen.  Act as Incident Commander in an emergency when the Program Manager and Executive Director are both off-site.
  • Reporting:  In coordination with the Program Manager, confirm actual numbers of students & teachers/parents/guardians attending the course and the number of dietary adjustment charges. Communicate these numbers to the office for final invoicing in a timely manner.

 

Qualifications

Required Certifications & Experience:

  • Food Safe Level 1
  • 2+ years experience in inventory, grocery ordering and budget management
  • 1+ year cooking experience
  • Preferred: OFA level 3
