Clinical Mental Wellness and Substance Abuse Counsellor

Job Purpose:

The Mental Wellness and Substance Abuse Counsellor is responsible for facilitating of mental health promotion and prevention programming for Saulteau First Nations (SFN), including individual and group counselling. As a part of a multi-disciplinary team, the counsellor will work wit community members along the spectrum of recovery from various mental health challenges, including problematic alcohol and substance use disorder, following a trauma informed and culture based approach. The counsellor will play an integral role in supporting the healing and wellness of SFN members through such programs.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or nursing, be a Registered Clinical Counsellor, or Psychologist, or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Training and certification in counselling and psychotherapeutic methodologist such as dialectic behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), trauma informed care, Indigenous Focusing Oriented Trauma (IFOT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support to community members in crisis, through conflict resolution, problem solving, de-escalation, etc, working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated ability to meet community members along the spectrum of mental health with compassionate, non-judgemental support, extending support beyond the provision of counselling services to include systems navigation, intensive case management, advocacy and transportation.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivery of culturally appropriate programs and community-based services, including nuanced understanding of correlation between mental health challenges in Indigenous communities and historic and ongoing impacts of colonialism and assimilation.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and understanding of the added importance of this tenet working in a small community.
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

Early Childhood Educator Infant Toddler Specialist

Job Purpose:

The primary focus of this position is to foster the cognitive, emotional, social and physical development of children in the childcare center, through a structured learning environment for children ages 0-6 years. This position works under the guidance and supervision of the Child Care Center Supervisor to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the center.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Early Childhood Education with Infant Toddler Specialist certification required.
  • Immunized for all routine vaccines according to routine schedule in BC or willingness to obtain prior to starting work.
  • Valid Child Safe Certificate or willingness to obtain prior to starting work.
  • Ability to pass Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks or willingness to obtain prior to starting work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to incorporate and help develop the Child Care Centre Cultural Program an asset.
  • Work as part of a team and successfully interact with a variety of personality types.
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality in the handling of information.
  • Knowledge in SFN community including history, traditions and culture is an asset.

Manager, Financial Services

Job Purpose:

The Manager of Financial Services is responsible for ensuring the accounting records of Saulteau First Nations provide for accurate and timely financial statements and analysis. In addition, as Saulteau First Nations is a government office, the Manager of Financial Services is responsible for ensuring the Nation’s accounting transactions are in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Designated CPA -required.
  • Accounting Diploma, or CAFM designation coupled with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience – an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience managing an accounting or finance team.
  • Alternatively, will also consider those with 5 years experience in public practice accounting, preferably with experience auditing in accordance with PSAS, IFRS and/or ASPE.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in a First Nations environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and reporting frameworks — PSAS Experience with the accounting system Adagio or Sage is considered an asset.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Well-developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information.

2025-09 ECEA, Early Childhood Education Assistant

Job Purpose:

The primary focus of this position is to assist the teachers in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program, focusing on the education, development and training of children who need additional support to learn and succeed and assisting the Child Care Center Supervisor with office and other related duties.

  • Early Childhood Education Assistant certificate.
  • Immunized for all routine vaccines according to routine schedule in BC or willingness to obtain prior to starting work.

Cook / Baker Part-Time 2025-10

Job Purpose:

The Childcare Centre Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, community-oriented meals and snacks at the Cree-Ative Wonder Childcare Centre. This role supports meal planning, grocery shopping, kitchen sanitation, and assistance with special events. The Traditional Cook / Baker operates within a childcare setting, ensuring meals and snacks are prepared to support the needs of the children, though there is no direct interaction with children.

Qualifications, Certifications and Knowledge:

  • High School or equivalent diploma
  • Food Safe Certificate is required – this can be obtained through an on-line course if required Knowledge of children’s nutrition and nutritious food options.
  • Standard First Aid is required
  • Clear Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Ability to oversee the organization and supervision of helpers in preparing and serving snacks or meals for special events.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and sanitized work area, adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to cut, package and prepare traditional meats/food an asset.
  • Cooking and Baking skills – proficient in traditional baking including breads, Bannock, muffins and able to plan and prepare meals.
  • Time management skills to ensure food is prepped and ready for scheduled times.
  • Ability to prepare and organize meal planning, food inventory, grocery lists, pick up groceries and responsible for safe storage and retrieval of food items.
  • Will be expected to attend farmers markets or make connections for farm-to-table foods.
  • Ability to assist with special activities that involve cooking outside such as Bannock on a stick, or some over the fire foods under land-based program.

Job Purpose:

The Home Care Licensed Practical Nurse supports health care in the community and fulfills the responsibilities of the Home Care and Community Health Nursing Program. The overall objective is to provide the community of Saulteau First Nations (SFN) with effective nursing services that contribute to and enhance the health and well-being of the SFN’s children, elders, and families.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Licensed practical nurse (LPN) with First Aid, CPR-C.
  • Experience nursing in a First Nations and rural community is an asset.
  • Emergency and triage training to assess medical conditions and determine actions.
  • Honest, trustworthy, respectful, and compassionate.
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to build trust, serve as a positive role model and maintain confidentiality.

The Receptionist provides general administrative support, books appointments, and ensures the clinic is safe, tidy, and well maintained. Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma with 1-2 years prior experience in office administration, ideally within a health-related capacity.

Early Childhood Educator

The Dawson Creek Veterinary Clinic Daycare is seeking a full time licensed Early Childhood Educator to fill a 12-month maternity leave position beginning in June 2025.
