The Yellow Umbrella / Thyme for Tea has been in business for 16 years and we are open ten months of the year (March – December 31); Open Wednesday – Sunday; Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The menu is lunch only plus a selection of desserts prepared on premise.  All menu items are prepared in the tea house kitchen.

Wage:  Starts at $14 per hour with a review in three months.

Starting Date:  March 13th opening for 2018 season March 16th.

Job Description:

Working under the supervision of the owner, this job is versatile and will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Daily preparation of menu items including desserts
  • Grocery shopping
  • Maintaining the kitchen and equipment according to Food Safe guide-lines
  • Supervising staff
  • Assisting with menu planning and special events
  • During busy times handling the cash register, answering the phone and taking reservations, and at times may be required to assist with serving food and assist with customer service
  • Cooking experience an asset but we are willing to train
  • Driver’s Licence required

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resources Manager provides administrative support, focusing on the development and delivery of HR programs, employee support and satisfaction, and contributing to the achievement of the Society’s goals and objectives. The Human Resources Manager is able to communicate clearly, provide support across the organization by providing excellent customer service and answering a variety of employee inquiries related to Human Resources. The Human Resources Manager carries out responsibilities in some or all of the functional areas: recruitment and retention, orientation, training and development, safety, performance management, succession management, employee relations, employee communication, and compensation.

 

Education

• Degree in Human Resources Management or related field

• CHRP or working toward CHRP an asset

 

Specialized Knowledge

Build your skills working with people, developing resources and making a difference in communities across the Cariboo.   The Invasive Species Council of BC is seeking a summer student that is looking for new and rewarding challenges in an innovative and collaborative atmosphere. As an Invasive Species Outreach Employee, you will assist in the development and delivery of some of the Council’s programs related to invasive species education, changing behavior, and training. You will want to build stronger communication skills both written and verbal, be able to research and be a concise and clear writer.

The Invasive Species Council of BC is a charitable organization with an established network of partners and advisors across the Cariboo and the province. You will work with a strong and supportive staff team and have the ability to work with respected leaders and mentors across BC.

What will you do?

As an Invasive Species Outreach Employee, you will have the opportunity to assist on a variety of the Council’s initiatives and activities, including but not limited to:

  • Support the delivery of the Cariboo Invasive Species Outreach program – responsibilities include delivering invasive species outreach and education within the Cariboo regions to key audiences including community and youth groups, schools and first nations.
  • Help to coordinate and deliver local invasive species education sessions, workshops, field tours and weed pulls and develop regional information and resources.
  • Some areas will include supporting Council’s behaviour change programs, including Plantwise, Clean Drain Dry, Don’t Let It Loose and others.
  • Support provincial invasive species programming including Invasive Species Action Month, working with industry and business partners on best practices, supporting events and developing resources for key Council programs.

The successful candidates will be required to work a flexible schedule that may include some weekends.

What skills do you need?

The outreach employee will be working with staff members, partners and the public and therefore need to be energetic, positive, outgoing, and confident. Successful candidates must be BC residents that are self-motivated, highly organized, responsible, and work well in a team. All applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent.

Ideally, you will have a strong combination of the following skills:

  • Ability to engage effectively with members of the public including experience and interest in delivering public presentations;
  • Strong motivational skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    Knowledge of invasive species and or natural resource environment
  • Experience working with youth and/or community groups;
  • Willingness to travel and possess a valid BC driver’s license;
