Director of Social Development
Background
The Esk’etemc First Nation is seeking an energetic and dedicated individual to perform the duties of Director of Social Development. The Esk’etemc First Nation will establish a “people-oriented” approach, strive to provide members with a wide range of welfare services, including income assistance, services for the elderly, medical social services, and related support services. The successful candidate will coordinate supports and services with health, education, justice and Esk’etemc administration and businesses to build capacity within Esk’etemc.
In the face of the increasingly complex social problems, The Director of Social Development will forge partnerships with businesses and governments, including local governments to provide a range of social services including access to training and employment opportunities.
Summary of the Position
The successful candidate will utilize all aspects of the Income Assistance Program to the benefit of Esk’etemc Income Assistance clients and eligible community members. Individual counselling, life skills, individualized programs and advocacy, work experience and job placement are all necessary on a one on one basis in order for Income Assistance clients and families to succeed.
The position is responsible for Income Assistance and social services to the membership in a client centered approach; conduct assessment and counselling of social assistance clients; develop a plan of action to assist the clients with the transition to training and employment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory Requirements:
• A valid driver’s license is a mandatory requirement and access to a reliable vehicle is mandatory.
• Criminal record check.
• If successful, the candidate must sign the EFN Oath of Confidentiality and must sign EFN Code of Conduct.
Education:
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor of Social Work post-secondary education and experience in working with First Nations Administration, preferably in the area of job counselling and social development.
Knowledge:
Knowledge in the following areas is required:
• a basic understanding of Income Assistance or Social Assistance Programs;
• administering programs and office administration;
• basic accounting processes; and
• a basic understanding of INAC program that is designed to address Income Assistance Program client’s by addressing barriers to employment.
Abilities & Skills:
The successful candidate should possess the following:
• ability to speak the Secwepemc Language would be an asset;
• ability to use Excel spreadsheets, and ability and experience using Microsoft computer programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word and the email program Outlook;
• excellent communication/interpersonal skills required to develop effective working relationships with clients and staff; and
