The Gold Trail School District is seeking a Relief Millworker. This is a full-time, temporary position, offering $27.53 per hour.

The Millworker, under the direction of the Director of Facilities and the general direction of the Operations Foreman, provides millwork services related to the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings, fixtures and equipment. The successful applicant is expected to:

  • Design, fabricate, apply finishes and repair furnishings and equipment
  • Perform a variety of carpentry duties related to dry walling and millwork
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Plan projects and determine material requirements
  • Report on work in progress
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, inspectors and Principals
  • Select, purchase and maintain inventory
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform other job related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • BC Trades Qualification or Inter-provincial Trades Qualifications
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Related experience at Journeyman level
  • Physical capability to perform duties
  • Must have WHMIS training
  • Clear criminal record check prior to commencing work

Assistant Grower

Juniper Beach in Walhachin is currently recruiting an Assistant Grower to join their team. This is a full-time position that offers $21.00/hour.

 

Reporting to the Production Superintendent, this position is responsible for the cultural program being implemented. The Assistant Grower ensures all cultural practices set out by the Production Superintendent are being performed. The Assistant Grower works in coordination with the Production Superintendent to achieve the proper crop requirements. Dedicated to meeting client expectations by growing crops to specification, by species or block types. Must have superior supervisory skills.

Duties:

  • Understand the crop layout, growth curves and crop plan
  • Implement all aspects of the cultural program
  • Directing staff to implementing all aspects of the cultural plan
  • Implement all aspects of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The Assistant Grower must have a Pesticide Applicator Certificate, or be able to obtain such
  • Work with the Production Superintendent and develop a clear understanding of the environmental control and irrigation/fertigation system
  • Monitor the crop for nutrient requirements and morphological issues
  • Supervise and train growing staff and ensure they understand and can implement all growing practices
  • Ensure all crop data is collected and information is provided to the Production Superintendent. This includes inventory counts, growth progression and sortability data
  • Monitor quality standards for sowing and lifting
  • Ensure the plan for any crop at risk is applied

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • High School Diploma. Post-secondary education preferred
  • Ability to work in an automated crop feeding system environment
  • Record keeping experience
  • Two to three years’ nursery crop experience
  • Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License

Working Conditions:

  • Generally works 40+ hours per week and may be expected to work overtime when required
  • Early morning, evening and weekend work may be necessary
  • Works inside and outside during extreme weather conditions and in a dusty environment
  • Involves standing, bending, lifting and carrying

  • Complete Budgeting and Scheduling for projects and track same. Monitor progress, requisition change orders and identify any potential risks.
  • Maintain relationships with sub-contractors and clients
  • Insure site personnel are provided with proper documentation related to project
  • Previous experience estimating drywall, insulation, steel stud & T-Bar
  • Experience with estimating software and spreadsheet design
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Graduate from recognized engineering, architectural or construction management program is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in the construction field in similar or related position
