Community Coordinator – Crime Reduction Strategies
Salary $66,200.03 – $75,658.71 annually

This is a temporary opportunity until approximately mid-2019. Regular employees must have their supervisor’s approval prior to applying on the temporary opportunity.

The Office of Crime Reduction – Gang Outreach (OCR-GO) works with police agencies, local governments, and communities to support evidence-based and integrated, policing related crime reduction and anti-gang initiatives to improve the safety of British Columbians. The OCR-GO emphasises the value of utilizing statistical analysis and research evidence to target offenders, guide decision-making, and evaluate the effectiveness of crime reduction and anti-gang activities.

The OCR-GO is led by the Policing and Security Branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and works in a coordinated fashion with the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch (CSCPB), the RCMP and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) in support of the End Gang Life initiative. The OCR-GO also works with local governments, community organizations, and police agencies to support crime reduction and anti-gang outreach programs.

The Community Coordinator – Crime Reduction Strategies, reporting to the Director, OCR-GO, develops programs and initiatives that are of strategic importance to the ministry from concept, to implementation and evaluation. This position supports and liaises with police agencies, other government ministries, First Nations communities, local governments and community partners to inform on best practices regarding crime reduction.  The Community Coordinator facilitates the development, formalization and implementation of local information sharing and collaboration protocols between and across key partners to help identify and support at-risk individuals who are in need of several, often overlapping services to collectively address the root causes of existing and emergent issues that lead to involvement in the criminal justice system.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, criminology, social sciences or related discipline and minimum 2 years of related experience. Preference may be given to applicants with 4 years of related experience.

    the equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience building relationships with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Experience negotiating agreements and working collaboratively in partnership arrangements.
  • Experience leading working groups, project teams and managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience in developing, managing, evaluating and administering programs and initiatives.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in public safety, law enforcement or crime reduction programs.

The Three Corners Health Services Society is currently seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join their dynamic health team to provide primary care services within the First Nations’ communities of Soda Creek, Canoe Creek and Williams Lake.

Within the Nurse Practitioner role, the Nurse Practitioner will provide full scope primary care services that will include mental health and substance use, as well as, health promotion and prevention education for individuals, families and the communities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current registration and exam-qualified as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC)
  • Successful completion of a CRNBC recognized written exam (i.e. CNPE, ANCC, AANP)
  • Successful completion of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledgeable regarding cultural competency in professional nursing practice
  • Knowledgeable regarding First Nations’ health and social issues, experience in providing primary health care services within a First Nations community setting is considered an asset.
  • Ability to understand and speak the Secwepemcstin language is considered an asset
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint & Publisher
  • A valid BC Driver’s License is a requirement

  • Coordinate all school programs connected to Dolphin Adventure Experience Ltd. including planning and care for individuals, communication with schools, ranch respite program and when in town coordinate with other professionals involved.
  • Prepare and put in place remedial programs for students needing extra help
  • Ensure that the youth/young adults can accomplish their grade specific tasks while simultaneously providing opportunities for community life.
  • Support individuals with complex learning issues
  • Identify and create support for individual learning needs
  • Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students and officials
  • Educate on music, art, a second language (French and/or German) and physical education
  • Work collaboratively with other department programs and managers, maintain appropriate records, and ensure completion of all documentation

  • Prepare courses for presentation to students according to approved curriculum

Qualifications/Experience/Job Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in the field of teaching
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in teaching children/young teenagers

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to present professionally
  • Demonstrate a pleasant and positive work attitude with an ability to relate effectively to others and have a sound philosophical understanding and ability to implement the principles of community living.
  • Experience in teaching a second language (e.g. French, German)
  • Play a musical instrument
  • Have experience in teaching music, arts and sports
  • Strong commitment to individualized planning and service
  • Organizational skills, team leadership and the ability to facilitate meetings

  • Willing to work flexible hours, on weekends, late shifts and on statutory holidays.
  • The applicant must have their own vehicle and possess a valid B.C. Driver’s License
  • First Aid Certification required

  • Willing to travel 5 times a week to our remote location in Mahood Falls, one hour from 100 Mile House, partly on a logging road
  • Provide driving service with your own vehicle to schools and meetings (compensation will be provided).

Wage Schedule:

  • 32.5 hours per week at $26.50 an hour
  • Gas will be paid if driving to meetings/schools
  • Over 40 hours a week will be paid time-accordingly to B.C employment standards act and regulations
