Job summary

Performs security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds and enforcing facility regulations, and/or performs basic maintenance and repair duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs security duties for the facility such as patrolling buildings and grounds, checking that gates are secure, escorting unwelcome visitors off of property
  • Deals with emergencies in accordance with guidelines, and reports incidents to appropriate staff or authorities.
  • Performs basic maintenance and repair work such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling nail holes, touching up paint, replacing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and door handles. Notifies supervisor of major repair and maintenance requirements.
  • Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using brooms, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse. Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering.
  • Cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping. • Monitors maintenance and housekeeping supplies and notifies manager of needs.
  • Provides clients with basic information related to the building. • Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Transports equipment, furniture, and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as shift reports, maintenance logs and security incident reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education:

  • Grade 12 Experience: • Certificate in First Aid • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • Recent, related experience of six months Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.

Job Purpose

The Homeless Outreach Worker engages with individuals experiencing homelessness, assisting them in accessing essential services, securing housing, and connecting with community resources to support stability and well-being. This role focuses on direct client support, advocacy, and outreach efforts to prevent and address homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach on foot or by vehicle to locate and engage with individuals experiencing homelessness in parks, shelters, and other areas.
• Provide support and advocacy to connect clients with housing, income assistance, and social services.
• Respond to concerned citizen calls and document outcomes.
• Assist clients in securing housing, maintaining tenancies, and overcoming barriers such as financial or social challenges.
• Act as a liaison between clients and landlords or the Ministry of Income Assistance to help clients maintain housing and benefits.
• Provide transportation for clients to essential appointments.
• Offer life skills support and referrals to health and social programs.
• Provide enhanced services during extreme weather conditions by distributing supplies such as water or blankets.
• Assist clients with completing necessary applications, including rental agreements, subsidy forms, and income assistance documents, and registering for BC Housing subsidies managed by CMHA.
• Coordinate the acceptance and distribution of furniture and household item donations.
• Attend community meetings to stay informed about available services and supports.
• Maintain accurate client files, records, and case notes in compliance with agency requirements.
• Maintains accurate and up-to-date information on funder data bases in compliance with contract requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:
• Completion of a recognized support worker certificate program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 2+ years of experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges, addiction, poverty, and homelessness.
• Knowledge of local resources and First Nations culture.

Skills & Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Summary
Works with a multi-person team within the Interior Health region and reports to the BCSS Interior Regional Manager. Provides information and resources for family members with a loved one dealing with serious mental illness. Acts as a liaison between families and the mental health system. Organizes workshops and education programs for families and the public, including Aboriginal communities.

Qualifications
