Position Title:    Registered Social Worker

The Tsihqot’in Health Department is seeking to hire a Registered Social Worker  to work in the six communities  of the Tsilhqot’in Nation.  This position will work closely with Caribou Memorial Hospital and other health care facilities to support community members who are receiving services by assessing, understanding and influencing the social determinants of health, as well as address practical, emotional, social and economic barriers that prevent individuals from benefiting fully from the skilled care of other health professionals. This position will also be responsible for helping patients/clients and their families to negotiate complex systems, build solid support networks, cope with stress, and strengthen or restore their ability to self-manage.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Social Work.
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience working with diverse clients and adults with chronic and acute illness, mental health issues and social barriers or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
  • Experience in direct service, community-based healthcare delivery systems and experience working with Tslihqot’in people and leadership (including Elders, Bands, Tribal Councils, Aboriginal service providers, etc.)
  • Local area travel may require the use of personal vehicle.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply case management principles.
  • Broad knowledge of case management and practice within a client and family centered care model for clients with health/mental health care needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply systems theory to practice in Social Work assessment and intervention.

  • Broad knowledge of systems thinking as it relates to the social work process.

Summary of Job Duties:

  • Participating in wildlife related field work
  • Wildlife data analysis and interpretation to Communities, Staff, and Leadership
  • Interpretation and assessment of wildlife species habitat requirements
  • Assist or lead in proposal writing, study design and implementation
  • Perform background research and analysis, including consultation with government agencies
  • Deliver high quality reports on time and within budget, drawing upon technical and scientific knowledge, training and experience
  • Manage small to medium-sized projects, communicating with communities and committee members and reporting to senior staff
  • Work within a team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of staff
  • Other duties as assigned/required

Job Qualifications:

  • University degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Ecology, biology, and/or other biological Science
  • Registered as a Professional Biologist (RPBio.) in good standing with the British Columbia College of Applied biology (CAB), or eligible for registration
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant field and office experience
  • Experience working in ecosystems within BC
  • Demonstrated experience with environmental monitoring on large scale projects if preferred
  • Understanding of the application of provincial and federal environmental legislation to project permitting in BC
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

We are seeking to hire a Natural Resource Referral Worker for a permanent position.  This position is based in the TNG Stewardship Department and will also work within the Tŝilhqot’in communities.  A successful candidate is one that expresses an interest in making a difference and building capacity with the Tŝilhqot’in.

Summary of Job Duties:

  • Review incoming natural resource referrals received through the Tŝilhqot’in Stewardship Planning Portal (TSPP)
  • Evaluate proposed activities in relation to potential impacts on Tŝilhqot’in traditional use and values
  • Field work within the Tŝilhqot’in territory (when necessary)
  • Consistent communication with community members and delegated community representatives to record findings and recommendations and inform responses
  • Submit responses to proponents through the TSPP by the closing date

Job Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Natural Resources, or equivalent three to five years of experience
  • Registration with ABCFP as a Forest Technologist would be an asset
  • Experience working with First Nations Communities
  • Knowledge of the Tŝilhqot’in communities, culture and traditions
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Competent with computers, Microsoft Word & Excel and able to learn new software
  • Experience dealing with wide range of land and natural resource management issues, with a focus on land management, forestry and/or mining.

The agrifoods sector, which includes agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and processing, is an important and successful contributor to the B.C. economy, and has responded vigorously to challenges and opportunities.

The Sector Development Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production/processing systems that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province. The Branch leads the Ministry’s agriculture business and industry development including initiatives with First Nations, new entrants, organics and food processing. It maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver Ministry programs and services through a network of regional agrologists and industry specialists. We are the primary point of contact for the Ministry’s agriculture clients, both businesses and associations, and we provide Professional Agrologist support to local government planning and emergency response/planning processes, and to both the Agricultural Land Commission and the Farm Industry Review Board.

As the regional resource, the Regional Team Lead provides professional expertise and leadership on the strategic direction, cross government/industry coordination and implementation of the Ministry of Agriculture’s wildfire recovery programming.  In addition the Regional Team Lead will facilitate the delivery of AGRIServiceBC, rural and agriculture development and provide guidance on complex land use or environmental issues throughout the Cariboo central interior. It is expected that the Regional Team Lead possess and maintain provincial expertise in emergency management while at the same time being able to provide technical professional support and leadership to the management of cross-sector issues.

Qualifications for this role include:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or a related science, preferably specializing in business, livestock, plant or soils management; AND

·         With a Bachelor’s degree, you must have 7 years of professional experience; OR

·         With a Master’s Degree, must have 5 years of professional experience

·         Registered as a Professional Agrologist or *immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA).

*Note:  immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional Agrologist in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to the BCIA within 6 months of employment.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the BCIA reviews their qualifications to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.

·         Seven (7) years of demonstrated experience addressing the economic, environmental and/or social constraints of the agriculture and food sector, preferably in BC.

·         Two (2) years of considerable experience leading teams and being accountable for managing assigned resources, meeting goals and achieving results.

·         Demonstrated operational experience with the ranching sector.

Special Requirement:

·         Must possess and continue to maintain a Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
