The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is responsible for British Columbia’s electricity, alternative energy, mining and petroleum resource sectors, and supporting work to meet BC’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. The Tenure and Resource Stewardship Branch leads and coordinates ministry efforts to promote and facilitate access to land by the mineral exploration, mining, and oil and gas and other energy industries including coal, wind and hydroelectric. This includes working to prevent and resolve land use conflicts, identifying opportunities for shared success with Indigenous partners and alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and working across government to ensure sector interests are considered where competing uses are involved in land allocation or when making conservation decisions.
With a focus on petroleum and natural gas (PNG) strategic initiatives and pre-tenure referral process, the First Nations Analyst identifies opportunities for shared success in the First Nations consultation process (i.e., preparation, engagement, accommodation, decision and follow-up) and may participate in negotiations with First Nations. In addition to First Nations consultation, this position will lead the referral process with partners to identify and resolve land use conflicts prior to sale of PNG and other subsurface tenure.
Qualifications for this role include:
· Bachelor’s degree in planning, forestry, geography, natural resource management, petroleum geology, petroleum engineering or a related field of study.
· Experience working effectively, respectfully and knowledgeably with Indigenous communities for mutually beneficial outcomes.
· Experience providing project management and coordination services for assigned projects, preferred.
