Screening Officer (Williams Lake Regional Airport)

Job Introduction:

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, the Screening Officer is responsible for ensuring that the traveling public, their personal belongings, and the carry-on baggage and items they have with them are screened before they enter the sterile area of the airport. This will be accomplished by using metal detection equipment, X-ray equipment, and explosive detection equipment, as well as physical search techniques to search baggage, items and personal belongings. As this is a unionized environment shifts assignments can be any day of the week (including Saturday, Sunday, and holidays) and starting and ending at any time during the day.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen and/or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Must be able to work shift work
  • Must be able to obtain a Transport Canada Security Clearance
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to:
    1. Standing for long periods of time
    2. Lifting/pushing/pulling luggage and/or other items
    3. Bending, stooping, kneeling
    4. Performing surface lifts
  • Ability to mentally focus and concentrate for a prolonged periods of time.
  • Completion of High School; Some college/CEGEP/vocational is an asset
  • Successfully complete all CATSA assessments including SOF and OJT programs to attain
  • Screening Officer designation.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid medical certificate
  • Proactive team member with excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to take accountability for personal actions and decisions
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written, customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, tact and diplomacy
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to think logically and analyze information
  • Computer skills an asset
  • Knowledge of CATSA Organization, CATSA SOP’s, local COPs, Transport Canada
  • Regulations as they pertain to screening and the Aeronautics Act an asset

Pay Rate:

  • $17.36/Hr (Training Wage)
  • $19.74/Hr (Starting Wage)
  • Other payments as per collective agreement. Eligibility based on number of hours worked.

Hours: Variable

  •  24/7 operation and a UNIONIZED environment.
  • Shift assignments can be any day of the week (including Saturday, Sunday, and holidays) and starting and ending at any time during the day.
  • Your seniority number will allow you to bid on shift lines once shift bids are occurring.

Regional Integrated Investment Specialist

There are eight positions, one in each region: Nanaimo, Williams Lake, Kamloops, Smithers, Fort St John, Surrey, Cranbrook, and Prince George.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) works to restore and maintain healthy, resilient forests.  In recent years, government has made significant investments to achieve this objective including: the Forest Carbon Initiative (FCI) as part of the Climate Leadership Plan, the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, the Forests for Tomorrow Program (as part of Land Based Investment Strategy), the Forest Fibre Action Plan and the Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative (SWPI).  Each of these programs has a unique mandate and delivery approach.

The Integrated Investment Specialist will work with multiple internal and external stakeholders such as licensees, local governments, First Nations and various funding organizations/programs (i.e. the Forest Enhancement Society of BC). They also work across FLNRO business areas such as Climate, BC Timber Sales, Resource Stewardship and First Nations Relations. Each Integrated Investment Specialist will build and lead the regional integrated planning team and will coordinate, report and identify investment opportunities on the land base.  The Integrated Investment Specialist will ensure that the investment opportunities deliver government priorities and inform funding decisions (e.g. Forest Carbon Initiative, Forest Enhancement Society of BC, Forests for Tomorrow, Land Based Investment Strategy, etc.) to enable activities on the ground (reforestation, fibre utilization, ecosystem recovery, wildfire prevention).
