Who we are: We are an association of volunteers with coordinated efforts that aim to support and supplement Northern Health’s management and operation of Hospice and Palliative Care services in Quesnel and the District. Through fundraisers and volunteer management we fund and resource different supports to the palliative and end of life journey of the different patients and clients in Quesnel and the District. Our goal is to make the road less lonely.

Position Details:

  • Part-time in office work, some flexibility required

Position Qualifications:

  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence and vehicle preferred
  • Experience in managing non-profit organizations and managing volunteers
  • Experience working in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field

Volunteer coordination:

  • Recruit and screen hospice volunteers
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and mentorship to hospice volunteers through training, education, and support meetings
  • Maintain contact and evaluate each volunteer individually

  • Annually review volunteer training, education, and jobs to ensure hospice needs are met
  • Support volunteer training

Event/fundraising management:

  • Coordinate/communicate with the Hospice board and association, volunteers and the community, during fundraising events
  • Coordinate volunteers to maintain fundraising events
  • Obtain gaming licenses and other required documentation for fundraising events
  • Develop, implement, and increase donor engagement in fundraising activities
  • Ensure donor information is maintained and recognized

A Day in the Life:

PRT is currently recruiting for a full time Maintenance Specialist position at PRT Quesnel in Quesnel, BC. The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the repair and maintenance of our Nursery and all things related to the farm; greenhouses, equipment, site buildings, vehicles, and everything in between. It is expected for everyday to be a little different from the last, with varying tasks and challenges. The Maintenance Specialist will have a high level of safety awareness and be competent in assessing the safety requirements needed to successfully complete projects while minimizing risk to the crops being produced. The Maintenance Specialist understands what tasks can be performed within their wheel-house and works with management to outsource or bring in experts when required. Candidates may be interviewed and tested to assess their skill, ability, competence, and efficiency for this position.

Key accountabilities of the Maintenance Specialist are:

  • Adhere to safety regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and in compliance with WorkSafe BC.
  • Ensure all equipment, facilities, and vehicles are kept in safe, reliable working condition while maintaining a clean, orderly work area.
  • Maintain a site-wide preventative maintenance program
  • Perform time sensitive emergency repairs to irrigation and nursery equipment when required
  • Keep neat and accurate records
  • Troubleshoot and repair systems including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical
  • Coordinate and monitor contractor activities for outsourced projects
  • Provide input to management and gather information for the completion of maintenance and capital improvement proposal and projects
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, prepare estimates, and order parts

About the team:

The Maintenance Specialist works alongside a dynamic team of Forest Nursery Workers and Growers, and reports to the Nursery Manager.
