Circulation & Reference Assistant

The Logan Lake Library Branch is currently seeking a casual Circulation & Reference Assistant. The Circulation & Reference Assistant registers new library patrons, checks library materials in/out, and performs cash transactions for payment of overdue fines. This position will answer reference questions, including questions about electronic devices such as e-readers. They may also be required to deliver programs. There is a physical component to this position as well.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for helping others and a belief in the importance of literacy
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience working with children

You will cater cooked breakfasts and dinners to small and large groups of our returning guests . We’re looking for professional, team-oriented people who are reliable and have a ‘can do’ attitude. Certified cooks are prefered, but if you have a great passion and skills for cooking it might be the perfect job for you. We will provide accommodation for working days for out of town staff. Along with cooking you will help with other tasks , particularly on ” change – over ” days.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan 2 weeks menu and shopping list.
  • Prepare and cook breakfasts.
  • Make sandwiches and snacks for packed lunches.
  • Cook 3 / 4 course dinners .
  • Clean kitchen , dinning room and other areas of restaurant building.
  • Greet and direct guest to their cabins.
  • Help with simple duties on ” slow” days.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Certificate from recognizable cooking school or / and experience in catering for groups up to 35 people with various dietary requirements.
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate.
  • Professional and team player.
  • Clean, attention to details.
  • Drivers License and a vehicle required.
  • Able to lift 50 lb and load and unload groceries.
  • Able to pass drug test if required.

Research Silviculturist
Salary $61,805.03 – $ 77,194.06 annually

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is responsible for the stewardship of Provincial crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archeological and heritage resources.

This position is the scientific advisor in the field of natural resource management, who conducts applied research to support science-based decision-making and provides expert professional advice relating to silviculture and complex resource management issues. This position identifies needs, conducts research, and prepares extension materials on the silviculture components of silvicultural systems. You possess the ability to draw conclusions on complex technical issues, using advanced analytical reasoning and judgement skills. You have strong written and oral communication skills, exercising professionalism, tact and diplomacy to industry clients, external agencies and management. In addition, you possess the ability to effectively liaise with other industry clients, government agencies, First Nations, the public and diverse public interest groups.

Qualifications for this role include:

Thesis-based M.Sc. specializing in Forestry, Forest Ecology or closely related Forest Science specialty; Plus three years of *directly related experience OR  a thesis-based Ph.D. specializing in Forestry, Forest Ecology or closely related Forest Science specialty; Plus 1 year of *directly related experience.

*Directly related experience may include: Planning or conducting research in silviculture, silvicultural systems, forest ecology, integrated resource management, and timber supply.

Registered or eligible for immediate registration as Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals ABCFP. Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower classification, provided they are registered or eligible for registration as a FIT (Forester in Training) or as an ASFIT (Allied Forester in Training) with the ABCFP. Applicants must contact the ABCFP to confirm their eligibility.

Must have a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
Experience in contract management is preferred.
Supervising experience is preferred.

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) was founded in 2003 with a mandate to provide the cost and price benchmarks for timber harvested from public land in British Columbia.  BCTS plans, develops, and auctions as much as 20% of the province’s annual available volume. The bid prices received from auctioned timber and costs of developing the timber are available to support market pricing of the province’s timber.

The Operations Technician is responsible for developing operating standards, implementing new forest management practices, coordinating technical activities, monitoring adherence to legislative, environmental standards and providing technical expertise to staff in Timber Sales License (TSL) development, operations, silviculture and forest health (FH) activities.

Qualifications for this role include:

Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management.

Two years (gained within the last five years) of experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, silviculture, timber tenure administration and forestry contract administration.

Or an equivalent combination of education or experience such as, or five years (gained within the last seven years) of experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, silviculture, timber tenure administration and forestry contract administration.
