Job Summary

Community Support Counsellor will develop and provide prevention, education, crisis counselling, substance abuse awareness and supports, assessment, treatment, and after care service which focused on addictions, mental health, FASD, and client advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides consultation, early intervention, intake, crisis counselling, assessment, advocacy, counselling, pre-treatment planning, internal and external referrals, aftercare on behalf of each client and their family.
  2. Develops relationships and partnerships and works in collaboration with various community and internal and external service providers as required.
  3. Provides advocacy supports for individuals and supports families through court proceedings when appropriate to the position, and supports clients through mediation, or case conference sessions as required.
  4. Liaises with governing bodies and delegated agencies in identifying children at risk and supports the family during investigations of reported child abuse and neglect while cooperating with Law Enforcement, Probations, First Nations Court Workers and the Ministry of Children and Families.
  5. Develops yearly work plans and strategic planning by liaising with health and other staff.
  6. Ensures accurate and timely collection and submission of statistics to meet program reporting requirements.
  7. Other Duties as Assigned or required

  2. Plans, coordinates events and is responsible to provide members transportation services.

  4. Conducts needs assessment with the community to identify gaps and provide targeted services to the community’s needs
  5. Prepares and submits regular activity reports to appropriate agencies.
  6. Develops a communication strategy for public awareness of programs and events.
  7. Participates in various community support, council and committee meetings as required/directed.
  8. Establishes and maintains budget.

Human Resources and Administration:

  1. Oversees and supervises all volunteer staff.
  2. Writes proposals

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Using DWLBIA’s new Brand Strategy Guide, Brand Package, Strategic Plan, as well as best practices, design and implement successful marketing strategies

·         Assist in developing and organizing, and attend DWLBIA events, ensuring that all events promote brand awareness, and create detailed event and marketing plans for use in subsequent years

·         Plan and launch advertising and promotional campaigns on a variety of media

·         Liaise with DWLBIA members and community partners to promote success of activities and enhance the DWLBIA’s presence

Recreation and Youth Worker

Skeetchestn Indian Band is currently seeking a full-time permanent Recreation and Youth Worker to join their team. This wage for this position is $16.00-$19.00 based on experience. The Recreation and Youth Worker will be tasked to develop, implement and evaluate programs for youth in our community along with administering and delivering the programs to the youth in the community along with administering and delivering the programs to the youth of all group age via arts-based activities, health and well-being activities, cultural activities, outdoor education and sports/fitness activities. The incumbent will also be responsible to research, survey, develop, implement and deliver programs for adults and families leading to well-being, cultural engagement and self-discovery.

Reporting to the Social Development Department Manager, responsibilities will include:

  • Planning events/activities for the youth of all group age, adults and families of Skeetchestn Indian Band
  • Schedule and promote youth, adults and community activities and events on a monthly basis
  • Getting the Youth involved and active
  • Seeking opportunities for Youth involvement
  • Be present to youth concerns and work closely with the Social Development team, including QHS and the community school to enhance programming
  • Administration of a large budget
  • Fundraising for youth events if needed
  • Prospecting for new funding opportunities, write proposals and apply for grants and reporting to funding sources
  • Participate in community consultation sessions and conduct surveys from time to time to gather input or evaluate satisfaction
  • Prepare regular youth activity reports, presentations, program impact updates (evaluate effectiveness)
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the youth and their families and all community members

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive computer skills
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract (must agree to obtain Class 4 within two months of employment)
  • Previous experience working with Youth or Recreation Community Services
